There has been a heatwave in the northeast resulting in record high temperatures for June. Summer is here! And while there is much to love about the warmest season of the year, ninety-plus-degree days can be unbearable. As a southerner, that I know! So having a few ways to stay cool starting now will surely help us all. Staying hydrated and as shaded as possible are obvious tips. But you know what else you can do to chill out when it’s scorching out there? Make a smoothie! With so many different types of frozen drinks to choose from-milk based, with yogurt, all juice, etc., this is my favorite blended combination for right now. Guaranteed to beat the heat. Well, for a moment at least.
Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie
- 1 cup of almond milk
- 1 medium banana
- 2 cups of pineapple chunks (fresh or frozen work best)
- 1 cup of strawberries
- 1 cup kale or spinach, chopped (you’ll get all the health benefits, none of the taste, I promise)
- 5-7 ice cubes
Need something easy for the kids to enjoy? Add to the fun for them by pouring the contents of the blender into Frozen Treat Trays (or an ice cube tray with half of a craft stick in each one) for a quick, delicious, and healthy treat.
Prefer fun that’s a little more adult? Leave out the kale, add some rum, and host a last minute happy hour. It is Friday after all. The first Friday of the summer in fact.
